Salary range: Up to circa £60,000 per annum DOE + competitive benefits

Our Team

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist in Machine Learning within our Independent Model Validation team. The validation team plays a key role in validating, challenging, and overseeing VMUK's overall model landscape, including credit risk, financial, and operational models. You will work across a broad range of models spanning retail and business asset classes, driving insights and improvements in model outputs and controls.

With emerging technologies such as Machine Learning and Generative AI, the financial modelling space is evolving rapidly. Our team provides oversight through independent validations and reviews of Artificial Intelligence models, collaborating with stakeholders across the bank to ensure robust model development activities.

What you'll be doing

1. Lead the validation of traditional and machine learning models to ensure they are fit for purpose.
2. Provide artificial intelligence and data science expertise to facilitate discussions between Model Development and Model Risk Management.
3. Engage with model owners, gather materials for analysis, challenge model performance or development, and document findings.
4. Utilize technical skills in data manipulation and extraction, assessing and comparing data from various sources.
5. Generate model validation reports and ensure validation actions are completed.
6. Support the development of a best-practice modelling culture within the bank.

We need you to have

1. A higher qualification in a mathematical or computer science field (MSc or above) or equivalent experience.
2. Significant experience in machine learning, engineering, and AI modelling techniques, including Generative AI.
3. Ability to lead development and review of modelling methodologies independently.
4. Strong statistical knowledge.
5. Experience with model development and validation in areas such as Fraud and Financial Crime.
6. Expertise in Python programming.
7. Advanced knowledge of data science and data mining methodologies.
8. Excellent data presentation and report writing skills, suitable for a Model Risk Committee or similar.
9. Sound decision-making and critical thinking skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred but not essential

• Knowledge of SAS programming language.
