Job summary

Astroscale UK (Harwell) seeks a Senior Computer Vision engineer to design, develop, verify and deploy advanced CV algorithms for spacecraft and ground systems. You will tackle space object detection, tracking and 6DoF pose estimation, collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to ensure software and hardware performance aligns with mission objectives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' industrial or research experience in computer vision algorithm development and deployment.
• Strong understanding of computer vision principles, image processing, machine learning and deep learning techniques.
• Experience developing computer vision algorithms from concept through validation and deployment.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
• Proactive and self-managing; able to collaborate across diverse teams.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop computer vision algorithms for space object detection and tracking, and 6DoF pose estimation.
• Support definition of computer vision subsystem architectures, requirements, and performance budgets.
• Assist computer vision hardware procurement and vendor interactions for mission needs.
• Contribute to verification, validation planning and execution for CV systems.
• Support CV subsystem test activities including hardware-in-the-loop campaigns.
• Assist integration and testing of flight software implementing CV algorithms.
• Collaborate with Systems, GNC, Flight Dynamics and other teams for mission success.
• Review colleagues’ work and mentor junior engineers in the field.
• Conduct state-of-the-art research into CV algorithm designs for missions.
• Contribute to system level activities like FMECA and FDIR processes.
