Senior Software Engineer

MCS Group is partnering with an established international technology consultancy growing its engineering team in Belfast.

This is an opportunity to join a small local team backed by an experienced international engineering organisation. You'll contribute to enterprise client projects, stay hands-on and have scope to take on greater responsibility as the Belfast team develops.

Bring technical depth-and curiosity

You don't need to have spent your entire career working with one particular stack.

The initial project uses TypeScript and Node.js, so experience with these technologies would be a strong advantage. However, we're also keen to speak with experienced Java or Python engineers who can demonstrate an ability to learn quickly and deliver in unfamiliar environments.

Perhaps you've moved between languages, taken ownership of an unfamiliar codebase or adapted to different client projects. That experience matters here.

The role

You'll work on complex production systems for enterprise clients, collaborating with international colleagues while taking ownership of your own delivery.

Your work will include:

• Developing and improving software, with an initial focus on TypeScript and Node.js.

• Working through technical challenges and making considered engineering decisions.

• Taking responsibility for code quality, testing and maintainability.

• Getting up to speed with new technologies as project requirements evolve.

• Contributing to a growing Belfast engineering team.

You’ll have support from experienced colleagues, alongside the trust and autonomy to move work forward independently.

What you'll bring

We're primarily looking for a senior engineer, although a strong mid level developer with clear evidence of ownership and adaptability will also be considered.

You’ll have:

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, Java or Python.

• Experience delivering and supporting software in large-scale production or enterprise environments.

• A track record of learning new technologies and applying them effectively.

• The confidence to investigate problems, use your judgement and ask for input when needed.

• Clear communication and a collaborative approach.

Consultancy or agency experience could be useful, particularly if you've worked across different projects and technologies.
