Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the legacy and new Enterprise API Platform. You will design solutions to meet product requirements, write test-driven code, pair with teammates, and mentor juniors while supporting the API Platform, with an emphasis on developer experience.

The role focuses on onboarding APIs, improving the dev portal experience, and rapid resolution of support requests in a collaborative, multi-environment setting.

Qualifications

• Expertise in development languages including Java, JavaScript, Groovy, JSP, HTML, XML, SQL, and bash.
• Knowledge of build tools Maven and Gradle.
• Knowledge and experience with relational DBMS PostgreSQL.
• Experience using AWS services via Terraform (Secrets Manager, Kinesis Firehose, S3, OpenSearch).
• Experience configuring New Relic and Kibana for metrics and alerts.
• Experience using Docker and containers; Helm and Kustomize for Kubernetes apps.
• Experience using kubectl, k9s or similar tools to observe/manage Kubernetes resources.
• Bonus: networks knowledge—AWS ACM certificates, VPCs, transit gateways.

Responsibilities

• Interface with other technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for complex components.
• Complete complex bug fixes.
• Collaborate with development team to translate requirements into designs.
• Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
• Work in Agile, Waterfall and other environments with stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical issues as necessary.
• Mentor entry-level software engineers as directed.
