Job summary

Whereby is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Core AI Services team in Cambridge. You will design, develop, and scale AI-enabled platform services, agentic workflows, and public APIs that are secure, reliable, and cloud-native.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years of software engineering experience across the full stack.
• Experience building cloud-native backend services (Azure).
• Strong RESTful API design, versioning, testing, and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure.
• Develop secure, well-documented public APIs and SDKs for internal and external use.
• Drive feature implementation from design to production with focus on performance and reliability.

Senior Software Engineer, Core AI Services

The job

We are looking for a passionate Senior Software Engineer to join our Core AI Services team at the forefront of industrial AI Innovation. In this role, you will help design, develop, and scale AI-enabling platform services, agentic workflows, and public APIs that are secure, reliable, and cloud-native. These services will act as foundational building blocks for AI adoption across AVEVA’s product portfolio and partner ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure.

• Develop secure, well-documented public APIs and SDKs for consumption by internal engineering teams and external partners.

• Drive feature implementation from design to production, taking ownership of code quality, performance, and system reliability.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions across data pipelines, orchestration layers, and service APIs.

• Embed robust security controls, identity management, and privacy-by-design practices across all AI services.

• Actively contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions to champion engineering best practices.

• Support and mentor junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

• 5-8+ years of software engineering experience across the full stack, with strong expertise in cloud-native backend development (.NET C# a plus).

• Hands-on experience with containerized deployments in Kubernetes.

• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, versioning, testing, and full lifecycle management.

• Strong knowledge of securing APIs (OAuth2, OIDC, RBAC) and implementing data privacy best practices.

• Proficiency in using modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate daily engineering workflows.

• Strong problem-solving abilities, with a track record of analysing complex technical challenges and delivering scalable solutions.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams across distributed global R&D locations.

• Proven ability to mentor colleagues and elevate team code quality
