Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the Enterprise API Platform, improving developer experience and onboarding for internal and external users. You will mentor juniors, participate in design discussions, and ensure high-quality code across legacy and new platform components.

You will collaborate across teams to deliver robust API solutions, maintain the dev portal, and drive rapid resolution of support requests while working within flexible patterns and varied

Qualifications

• Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: Java, JavaScript, Groovy, JSP, HTML, XML, SQL and bash.
• Experience with build tools - Maven and Gradle.
• Relational DBMS experience - PostgreSQL.
• Experience using AWS services via Terraform (Secrets Manager, Kinesis Firehose, S3, Open Search).
• Experience configuring observability tools - New Relic, Kibana.
• Experience with Docker, containers, Helm, and Kubernetes (kubectl, k9s).
• Knowledge of networks, AWS ACM certificates, VPCs, transit gateways is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for complex components.
• Complete complex bug fixes.
• Collaborate to translate product requirements into software designs.
• Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
• Operate in Agile, Waterfall, and other environments with stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical issues as necessary.
• Train entry-level engineers on critical aspects of their roles.
