Job summary

Roku, the leading TV streaming platform, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a hybrid role bridging software and data engineering in Manchester. You will architect production-grade data products, APIs, and scalable pipelines using Java/Scala, SQL, Spark, Airflow, and Kubernetes, collaborating with Finance, Analytics, and Engineering to deliver high-impact solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software and/or data engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL skills for large datasets.
• Experience developing APIs and robust backend services in Python/Java/Scala.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure; containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design and build APIs and backend services using Scala and Java for financial automation and data products.
• Write clean, efficient code with code reviews to ensure best practices.
• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL workflows using Spark and Airflow.
• Optimise storage, retrieval, and processing systems for reliability, scalability and performance.
• Develop and optimise complex Spark queries for large datasets.
• Monitor and improve data systems to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
• Partner with analytics and software teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
