Job summary

Roku, Inc. in Cambridge, UK is seeking a senior software engineer to design and build components of our real-time ad auction and marketplace systems.

You will own multi‑objective optimisation, moving from framing the problem to production rollout, mainly in Java on the JVM. You will operate low-latency JVM services, apply probability and statistics to test changes, and collaborate with senior engineers across codebases.

Qualifications

• Around six or more years building production software with strong systems judgment.
• Production experience in Java or another JVM language, or depth in a statically typed language such as C#, C++ or Go.

Responsibilities

• Design and build components of Roku's real-time ad auction and marketplace systems.
• Own the multi-objective optimisation core of the auction, balancing advertiser, publisher, viewer and Roku interests.
• Own development work end to end from framing the problem through production rollout.
• Build and operate JVM services where latency and reliability are requirements, not goals.
• Use probability, statistics and experimentation to test changes before and after launch.
• Work with AI tooling as a normal part of design, build, test and review.
• Explain technical trade-offs clearly to engineering and cross-functional partners.
