Job summary

Leap29 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop and modernise high‑performance desktop and cloud applications using C#/.NET. You will work hands‑on in a technically focused team, contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews and CI/CD practices, and help evolve existing products.

The role is 3 days per week onsite in the Aberdeen area, with opportunities to influence product direction.

Qualifications

• 5 to 15 years' professional software engineering experience.
• Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET.
• Proven experience designing and delivering complex production‑grade software.
• Experience with desktop applications and/or cloud‑based solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain complex desktop and cloud-based applications using modern software engineering practices.
• Write clean, maintainable and well‑tested C#/.NET code.
• Apply object‑oriented principles, SOLID, design patterns and appropriate architectural approaches.
• Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions.
• Work closely with the Team Lead and Product Owner to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Identify technical risks, trade‑offs and opportunities for improvement.
• Contribute to CI/CD and automated testing practices.
• Help modernise and evolve established software products.
• Use AI‑assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot and code‑generation/testing tools, where they add genuine value.
• Evaluate and adopt relevant technologies, frameworks and cloud services.
• Communicate technical concepts and challenges clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Senior Software Engineer C# / .NET | Desktop Applications | Cloud | Software Modernisation 3 days per week onsite

The Opportunity

We are looking for experienced Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers to join a highly technical product engineering team developing and modernising complex, high-performance software applications. This is a hands‑on individual contributor position. You will spend the majority of your time designing, developing and improving production software, while contributing to technical decisions, code reviews and architectural discussions. You will work closely with the Team Lead and Product Owner to turn complex requirements into reliable, scalable and maintainable software. This opportunity would suit an engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and wants to remain deeply involved in software development rather than moving towards people management.

What We're Looking For

• 5 to 15 years' professional software engineering experience
• Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET
• Proven experience designing and delivering complex production‑grade software
• Experience with desktop applications and/or cloud‑based solutions
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented design, architecture and software engineering principles
• Experience with design patterns, automated testing, version control and code reviews
• Experience working within an Agile development environment
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline

Desirable Experience

You don't need to have everything below, but experience in any of these areas would be valuable:

• Modernising legacy applications or mature codebases
• C or C++ development and migrating existing code into modern technologies
• AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform
• Building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot
• Modernising desktop applications and improving UI/UX
• Performance optimisation of complex applications
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
