Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Resilience Operations team, shaping cyber resilience tooling and recovery capabilities across a distributed microservices platform. You will collaborate with CTO Platform Engineering to design, implement, and operate scalable, secure solutions with real-time event handling and governance integration.

You will lead architectural decisions, mentor peers, drive secure coding and strong testing practices, and push for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and developing cyber resilience tooling for enterprise environments.
  • Strong front-end and back-end development capabilities across modern stacks.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD automation and secure deployment pipelines.
  • Experience managing containerised applications on Kubernetes/OpenShift and service orchestration.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Resilience Operations team, working alongside CTO Platform Engineering. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain cyber resilience and recovery tooling that enables teams across Barclays to autonomously manage protection and recovery operations. You'll work on a distributed microservices platform that orchestrates complex workflows across multi-infrastructure environments, integrates with enterprise governance systems, and handles real-time event streaming and state management. You will partner with infrastructure teams, security teams, and application owners to deliver solutions that reduce recovery times, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the bank's overall resilience posture. As a senior engineer, you'll own key architectural decisions, mentor team members, and contribute to evolving our platform's scalability, reliability, and security.

To be successful as a Senior Software Engineer, you should have experience in:

  • React or Angular front-end development (responsive, accessible UIs).
  • Go backend development, including REST API design and service integration.
  • GitLab CI/CD pipelines (build, test, scan, deploy automation).
  • Containerised applications on Kubernetes/OpenShift (deploy, run, troubleshoot).
Some Other Highly Valued Skills Include
  • TypeScript and modern front-end tooling and patterns.
  • API security and integration: OAuth2/OIDC/JWT, mTLS; data stores and messaging.
  • Helm and Infrastructure as Code, monitoring and logging.
  • Being a thought leader and innovator with experience in cloud and containerisation technologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering transformation at scale, moving legacy applications to cloud native micro-services architecture.

This role can be based in either Knutsford (Cheshire) or Glasgow.

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
