Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join the Data and Analytics team in Glasgow. You will design, implement, and support scalable cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and observability, while embedding security and reliability across the software lifecycle.

You will lead engineering teams, promote DevOps best practices, and drive cost-effective, high-performing infrastructure solutions in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53).
• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to add to our Data and Analytics team to aid in the transition to a DevOps model of operation. You would be a strong culture-carrier, responsible as part of a team for designing, implementing, and supporting secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and observability capabilities. The role provides technical leadership across engineering teams, driving DevOps best practices, enhancing software delivery performance, and embedding security, reliability, monitoring, and operational excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53, and networking services.
• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar tooling

Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include

• Strong experience with monitoring, observability, logging, and alerting platforms.
• Experience defining operational metrics, SLOs, SLIs, and service health reporting
• Knowledge of resilience engineering, chaos testing, and reliability engineering practices.
• Hands-on experience with distributed tracing and application performance monitoring (APM).

This role is based out of our Glasgow office.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support efficient and repeatable software delivery.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using industry-standard tooling and frameworks.
• Automate manual operational processes to improve consistency, quality, and speed of delivery.
• Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure, within AWS and hybrid environments.
• Ensure platforms are secure, highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient.
• Develop platform standards, reusable components, and self-service capabilities.
