Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Developer Platform Engineer in Glasgow to design, develop and improve software for our new developer platform. You will translate business needs into scalable solutions, building and iterating on internal tools and applications with a focus on reliability and performance.

In this role, you will collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to develop innovative applications, navigate complex infrastructure, and translate business requirements into actionable improvements—ensuring our platform remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

To Succeed In This Role, You Should Have
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build and maintain relationships with business colleagues
  • Full-stack application development experience
  • Proficiency in GitLab/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
  • Previous experience with automated testing
Additional Highly Valued Skills Include
  • Experience in building an Internal Developer Platform for enterprise use
  • Proficiency in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript (React preferred)
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization
  • Experience with AWS or another public cloud provider

Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
