Senior Software Development Engineer

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Developer Experience engineer to join our team! You will work closely with our customers (fellow Capital One Engineers), partners, and your team to enable and empower engineers across our UK Tech organization. Your focus will be working within our Amazon Web Services Cloud environment to build and contribute to our global CI/CD platform, tooling, and enablement capabilities that reduce frustration and accelerate delivery.

Our Developer Experience teams support our engineer customers daily to promote adoption of enterprise tooling, identify and solve friction points in the software delivery lifecycle, and foster a culture of continuous improvement in how we deliver software at Capital One.

You will join a passionate, diverse team dedicated to enhancing customer experiences every day.

What You’ll Do

1. Support and enhance the adoption of evolving software delivery lifecycle platforms.
2. Deliver core engineering features and improvements used daily by engineers in the UK and US.
3. Maintain and develop our core systems, improving internal customer journeys towards CI/CD.
4. Enhance AWS deployment and validation mechanisms.
5. Build relationships with platform teams to support prioritization and inner sourcing.
6. Act as a Developer Advocate within Developer Experience, building a network across engineering to identify friction and opportunities for improvement.
7. Operate beyond the IDE, solving problems with the right solutions for engineers, not just tools and features.

What We’re Looking For

1. A passion for improving developer experience.
2. Comfort working across various technologies and platforms to solve complex problems.
3. An analytical mindset focused on delivering value aligned with stakeholder expectations.
4. Experience with infrastructure as code, test-driven development, and CI/CD.
5. Strong programming skills in languages like Java or TypeScript and understanding of software development principles.
6. Solid knowledge of AWS or similar cloud platforms.
7. Excellent communication skills, willing to engage with customers and peers.
8. Willingness to participate in local and industry events as a speaker or attendee.

Work Location and Flexibility

This is a permanent role based in Nottingham Head Office with a hybrid work model: in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and remote on Mondays and Fridays. Flexible working arrangements are available.
