Job summary

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a national role in the UK. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders to transform public services through technology, delivering secure, scalable software.

You will contribute to an evolving tech stack including Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, and cloud-native tooling. Expect collaboration across product, design, and delivery teams to shape the technical roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experience building scalable enterprise applications using Java.
• Strong frontend proficiency with modern JS frameworks.
• RESTful API design and relational DBs (PostgreSQL).
• Cloud-native architecture with IaC (Azure, Terraform).
• Full SDLC knowledge: CI/CD, OAuth2/OIDC, monitoring.
• Leadership mentoring of engineers and setting technical standards.
• DevOps practices and containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes.
• Security-first mindset to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10).

Responsibilities

• Develop, improve and document code following standards.
• Keep up with relevant technologies and identify potential issues.
• Ensure product security, data confidentiality, and integrity.
• Support and maintain software including limited out-of-hours work.
• Plan development, coordinate integration and drive process improvements.
• Manage service availability cost-effectively.
• Build and test system interfaces.
• Write automation scripts and participate in code reviews.
• Mentor junior colleagues and share technical expertise.
• Take ownership of technical roadmap and promote best practices.
