Job summary

London Borough of Redbridge is seeking an experienced, solution-focused manager to lead this critical soft services area, drive standards, manage budgets and teams, and deliver excellence for residents, staff and visitors.

You will work closely with Housing, Education, Estates and Procurement to align delivery with council priorities, overseeing cleaning, caretaking, grounds maintenance, waste management, pest control, window cleaning and site security.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading soft services teams and contractors.
• Strong budget control, forecasting and value-for-money delivery.
• Contract management across multiple service providers and SLAs.
• Stakeholder engagement with schools, housing and procurement teams.
• Knowledge of health, safety and COSHH standards.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Soft Services team and external contractors.
• Oversee cleaning, caretaking, grounds maintenance, waste, pest control, window cleaning and security.
• Manage budgets, forecast spend and ensure best value.
• Enforce SLAs, KPIs and audit compliance with safety standards.
• Procure and review external providers; handle tenders and renewals.
• Drive continuous improvement, sustainability and net-zero targets.
• Engage with schools, tenants and staff; report progress to service heads.
• Ensure business continuity during peak periods and emergencies.
