Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Site Engineer for the Kiln Lane Substation as part of the Great Grid Partnership. You will support safe and successful delivery of construction activities, working with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and client stakeholders to meet quality, safety and performance standards.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent, with experience in managing and mentoring teams of Site Engineers and delivering complex infrastructure

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience leading and mentoring teams of Site Engineers.
• Experience delivering major infrastructure, power, utilities or civil construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering and construction activities to ensure safety, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to enable efficient delivery.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor progress against programme, quality and safety requirements.
• Review drawings, specs and design information; help resolve technical challenges.
• Support QA activities, inspections, audits and testing.
• Promote safety, health, wellbeing and environmental performance.
• Maintain accurate project records, progress reports and site documentation.
• Mentor and support engineers to develop capability across the project.

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Site Engineer to join our team at Kiln Lane Substation, part of the Great Grid Partnership. This nationally significant programme is helping to strengthen the UK's electricity transmission network and support the transition to a more sustainable future.

You will play an important role in supporting the safe and successful delivery of construction activities. You'll work closely with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and client stakeholders to ensure work is completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

What will you be doing?

Responsibilities

• Supervising engineering and construction activities to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget.
• Coordinating with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to support efficient project delivery.
• Carrying out site inspections and monitoring progress against programme, quality, and safety requirements.
• Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and design information, while helping to resolve technical challenges.
• Supporting quality assurance activities, inspections, audits, and testing requirements across the project.
• Promoting high standards of health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental performance.
• Maintaining accurate project records, progress reports, and site documentation.
• Mentoring and supporting engineers within the team, helping to develop capability across the project.

What are we looking for?

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have experience working on major infrastructure, power, utilities, civil engineering, or construction projects.

You’ll hold a degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification and have a strong understanding of construction delivery within complex project environments. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience managing and mentoring teams of Site Engineers, coordinating multiple work fronts, and driving safe, efficient delivery on site.

You’ll bring strong technical knowledge, effective communication skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders. Experience managing subcontractors, reviewing engineering documentation, and supporting project delivery from planning through to completion will be highly beneficial.
