Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Signalling Engineer/Designer to join the Consulting Rail team across Derby/Manchester/Birmingham/York. The role focuses on delivering design schemes for UK rail projects, leading a small team, and ensuring technical quality and client satisfaction.

The successful candidate will bring rail civil engineering experience, knowledge of DMRB/CDM, and a proactive approach to delivering on time and within budget, with a flexible hybrid working model in the UK.

Qualifications

• A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Relevant experience in civil engineering within rail sector, the ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income.
• Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
• A good understanding of DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
• A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to Rail design
• The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for the delivery of services when required.
• Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
• Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate, apply best practice within the team

Responsibilities

• Work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria; oversee junior staff.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives at the peer level, attend progress meetings, respond to queries.
• Manage a small, locally based, single-discipline technical team and take responsibility for the delivery of the workload.
• Contribute to bid preparation and the general work-winning function.
• Work on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full-time but temporary role, including out of hours work.
• Take on people management when required by the business

About The Team

As a Senior Engineer on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects including Wales & Borders. We are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Signalling team which deliver innovative and complex designs to our clients including Network Rail, Transport for Wales and others. As a Graduate Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your design team on a variety of rail design schemes whilst playing a key role on projects

Responsibilities Include

• The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at the peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries, etc.
