Job summary

Amey invites applications for a Graduate Engineer - Rail Systems in the UK. You will join a team delivering rail design projects across major programmes, starting your career with hands-on experience from day one.

Starting salary is £31,000 with training, mentorship and exposure to industry-leading projects across rail infrastructure in Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester. This is a fantastic entry point into a fast-moving engineering career with Amey.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an Engineering, Mathematics or Science based subject with 2:1 or above.
• Full UK driving Licence required.

Responsibilities

• Support Rail Systems design team on schemes from concept to delivery.
• Contribute to OLE, Track & Signalling design elements for projects.
• Produce designs, calculations, drawings, and risk assessments.
• Liaise with interfacing design engineers and suppliers.
• Configure and program PLCs where required.
• Assist in project documentation to meet quality, cost and schedule.

About the Team

As a Graduate Engineer on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects including Wales & Borders. We are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in-house engineering team delivers design solutions across all project lifecycle stages and disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of rail safety and efficiency.

What you’ll be doing

Our Railway Systems Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Signalling team which deliver innovative and complex designs to our clients including Network Rail, Transport for Wales and others. As a Graduate Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your design team on a variety of rail design schemes whilst playing a key role on projects.

Responsibilities include:

• Contributing to the OLE, Track & Signalling design elements of complete projects including renewals, enhancements and new works through all of the project life cycle
• Being a key player in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
• Preparation designs, calculations, drawings, risk assessments and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Liaising with design engineers from interfacing disciplines.
• Configuring and programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
• Supporting the Design Lead in liaising with clients (both internal and external to Amey) and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
