Job summary

Amey is seeking a Graduate Engineer - Rail Systems in the UK, starting salary £31,000. You will work on major rail projects across the country, supporting design teams with OLE, track and signalling elements, and contributing to renewals and enhancements from day one.

As a graduate, you will learn from industry experts, develop practical skills, and progress through structured mentoring and development opportunities within Amey’s consulting rail signalling team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an Engineering, Mathematics or Science based subject at Grade 2:1 or above
• Full UK driving License

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the OLE, Track & Signalling design elements of complete projects including renewals, enhancements and new works through all of the project life cycle
• Being a key player in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
• Preparation designs, calculations, drawings, risk assessments and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Liaising with design engineers from interfacing disciplines
• Configuring and programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
• Supporting the Design Lead in liaising with clients (both internal and external to Amey) and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team

About The Team

As a Graduate Engineer on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects including Wales & Borders. We are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in-house engineering team delivers design solutions across all project lifecycle stages and disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of rail safety and efficiency.

What You’ll Be Doing

Our Railway Systems Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Signalling team which deliver innovative and complex designs to our clients including Network Rail, Transport for Wales and others. As a Graduate Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your design team on a variety of rail design schemes whilst playing a key role on projects.
