We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior SHE Manager to join Greggs and lead the development and delivery of our Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) strategy. You'll play a key role in ensuring effective governance, risk management and compliance, while helping to create a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for our colleagues, customers and wider business.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you'll provide leadership and expert guidance on all aspects of SHE. You'll ensure that SHE principles are embedded into decision-making, business planning and operational activity, supporting both day-to-day performance and future growth.

As Greggs' lead SHE specialist, you'll oversee our SHE Management System, drive a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement across the business. You'll combine strong technical expertise with practical experience to deliver effective, commercially balanced solutions in a complex operational environment.

We can offer you:

  • Management Bonus Scheme which is worth up to 17.5% of your salary
  • Pension scheme with matching employer contributions up to 7%
  • Colleague discount, up to 50% off our own-produced products
  • Profit share - We want everyone to share in the success of the business, so we distribute 10% of our profits to all our colleagues who have at least 6-month service, or more, each year
  • 25 days (5 weeks) annual leave, pro-rated, increasing with service (in addition to bank holidays), plus 1 additional floating day
  • The opportunity to purchase additional annual leave twice a year
  • Colleague share plans, giving you the opportunity to save and invest in Greggs, with the chance to buy Greggs shares at a discounted rate
  • Private Medical Insurance which is free for you and subsidised for your dependants
  • Income Protection should you become unable to work due to long-term sickness
  • Death in service benefit which provides a lump-sum payment equal to 4 times your year's salary
  • Virtual GP, Physiotherapy and Lifestyle Consultations - we provide access to a fantastic total wellbeing app for you and your family
  • Employee Assistance Programme - we provide all colleagues with access to an EAP helpline providing mental health support as well as financial and legal support
  • Savings and discounts, including digital gift card discounts, online cashback, in-store and online coupons and lifestyle offers
  • Career progression and learning and development opportunities
  • A company who cares about our communities; the environment and being a better business!
  • Colleague Networks - internal groups where colleagues and their allies can share their own experiences, offer feedback on the way we do things at Greggs, and provide support to one another
About the role
  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Newcastle Upon Tyne
What you'll do
  • Lead and evolve Greggs' SHE strategy, ensuring Safety, Health and Environment priorities support business growth, operational excellence and industry best practice.
  • Oversee the SHE Management System, ensuring effective governance, compliance, assurance and risk control arrangements are embedded across the business.
  • Provide expert leadership on SHE legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice, ensuring a practical and proportionate approach to compliance and risk management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in SHE performance through effective reporting, data-led insight, incident management and targeted interventions.
  • Maintain oversight of the Company's SHE risk profile, ensuring key risks are effectively managed and organisational learning is embedded to strengthen resilience
  • Lead and develop a high-performing SHE function and wider SHE community, building organisational capability, ownership and accountability to ensure Greggs are equipped to deliver our SHE priorities.
  • Represent Greggs externally on SHE matters, building strong relationships with regulators, industry bodies and other key stakeholders
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide trusted advice, influence decision-making and drive continuous improvement in SHE performance
  • Provide leadership to the SHE team and wider SHE community, developing capability and ensuring the function remains equipped to support business needs
About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Are a Chartered member of IOSH (CMIOSH) with extensive experience leading Safety, Health and Environment programmes within a complex, multi-site organisation

  • Bring significant experience of managing SHE risks across manufacturing, logistics and retail environments, including engineering, contractor and operational safety
  • Have a strong understanding of recognised management systems (including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001), risk management principles, compliance frameworks and regulatory engagement
  • Are highly credible when working with senior stakeholders, able to provide sound judgement, influence decision-making and constructively challenge where needed
