Job summary

Greggs PLC is seeking a Quality Assurance Officer for our new SmartParc Derby site. The role supports QA activities, leads audits, and maintains HACCP plans to ensure product safety and quality across the facility.

Permanent, 40 hours weekly, 10am-6pm, with occasional weekend work; base location SmartParc, Spondon. You’ll collaborate across Logistics, Production, Engineering and Supply Chain to drive standards and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC in Food Science or equivalent.
  • HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications.
  • Solid understanding of BRCGS requirements and audits.
  • Experience in investigations and internal audits with attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and influence others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day QA activities and support the QA Manager.
  • Lead third party BRC / EHO audits in the manager's absence.
  • Support HACCP validation, trend analysis and plan upkeep.
  • Develop and implement food safety and quality procedures.
  • Chair management meetings and present technical information.
  • Support product recalls and CAPA activities.
  • Monitor testing requirements and drive corrective actions.
  • Manage non-conforming products and complaint investigations.
  • Drive internal audits and site-wide standards.
  • Coach and train QA team members for consistency.

Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on qualifications and experience

About the role
  • Permanent role, working 40 hours per week, 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday with flexibility to meet the needs of the business. This may require occasional weekend work.

  • The base location for this role is SmartParc, Spondon, Derby DE21 7UP. However occasional travel to other sites may be required
What you’ll do

As a Quality Assurance Officer, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the QA Manager with day to day technical activities. This includes leading third party BRC / EHO audits and inspections in their absence, to ensure the sites certification / approval status is maintained
  • Deputising for the QA Manager on the site HACCP team and carrying out validation work and trend analysis to support the sites HACCP plan
  • Assisting with the introduction and implementation of food safety and quality procedures for day-to-day manufacturing operations
  • Leading management meetings and presenting technical information as requested by the QA Manager
  • Providing technical support for site product recalls and withdrawals and leading incident calls in the absence of the QA Manager
  • Leading or supporting root cause analysis and corrective and preventative action (CAPA) activities arising from food safety and quality incidents
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the product testing requirements, including analysis of results and instigation of investigations and corrective action plans
  • Supporting the site with the management of non-conforming products and complaint investigations
  • Driving operational standards by completing internal audits in line with the sites internal audit schedule
  • Supporting the development, coaching and training of QA Team members to build capability and ensure consistent application of food safety and quality standards
  • Supporting the QA Team in achieving their targets, objectives and development plans
  • Driving a food safety and quality culture across the site through coaching and engagement activities
About you

We are looking for individuals who are driven, and can demonstrate:

  • A Degree or HNC level education in a Food Science-based subject
  • HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications
  • A good understanding of BRCGS requirements and experience participating in internal and third-party audits
  • Proven experience in investigations and internal audits with strong attention to detail
  • Proven leadership experience, with strong decision-making and report-writing skills
  • The ability to make sound decisions under pressure and respond effectively to food safety or quality incidents
  • A results-focused approach, with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others
  • The ability to build effective relationships with colleagues across Logistics, Production, Engineering and Supply Chain functions
  • Experience supporting, coaching and developing colleagues to achieve individual and team objectives
  • Experience of managing multiple priorities and working calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams
