Job summary

Wates Construction is seeking an experienced Senior SHE Advisor to join our project team at HMP Hindley, helping ensure the highest standards of safety, health and environmental performance across a complex, high-profile site.

You will work across operational teams and the supply chain, delivering coaching, inspections, RAMS reviews and SHE training to promote a proactive safety culture and compliant, low-risk delivery.

Qualifications

• Significant SHE experience within construction or high-risk environments.
• Excellent knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience coaching operational teams and senior leaders.
• Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports and recommendations.
• Experience investigating incidents and driving corrective actions.
• Organisational skills and a solutions-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence.
• NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6 NVQ or equivalent.
• CertIOSH membership.
• Working towards or achieved CMIOSH.
• Environmental qualifications (IEMA) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert SHE guidance across the project.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and SHE reviews.
• Review RAMS and project plans for compliance and suitability.
• Coach project teams on risk management and safe working practices.
• Support incident investigations and identifying lessons learned.
• Deliver SHE training, briefings and awareness initiatives.
• Ensure accurate reporting and timely close out of actions.
• Build strong relationships with operational teams and supply chain partners.
• Promote continuous improvement and share best practice across the business.
• Support the wider delivery of the Wates SHE strategy.
