Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Senior SHES Advisor to support a portfolio of major construction and infrastructure projects. Based at Iver substation with regular travel to sites across Northwest London, you will promote a strong SHES culture and drive continuous safety improvements.

You will provide expert SHES guidance, coach project teams and contractors, and ensure compliance with CDM regulations while supporting incident investigations and lessons learned to enhance project delivery.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards)
  • HNC/HND or degree in engineering/construction or related discipline
  • Professional membership of a recognised health, safety or environmental body desirable

About the role

At National Grid, we're delivering the infrastructure needed to support Britain's cleaner, greener energy future. As a Senior SHE Advisor, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting a major portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects across Northwest London, helping to ensure the highest standards of safety, health, wellbeing, environmental performance and quality.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence some of the UK's most critical energy projects, working closely with project teams, contractors and stakeholders to create a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement across project delivery.

What You'll Do
  • Champion and promote a positive Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability (SHES) culture across a portfolio of major construction projects.
  • Provide specialist advice and coaching to project teams, contractors and stakeholders on SHES best practice and compliance.
  • Monitor contractor performance and undertake audits, inspections and assurance activities to ensure safe and effective project delivery.
  • Support incident investigations, identify lessons learned and drive improvements in working practices.
  • Develop and implement project SHES plans aligned to National Grid's wider strategy.
  • Influence and engage stakeholders at all levels to improve performance, manage risk and encourage innovation.
  • Support process safety, CDM compliance and quality assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.

You will be based out of Iver substation with travel regularly to sites in Northwest London.

About you

You'll be an experienced SHES professional with a proven track record supporting major construction, infrastructure or engineering projects.

We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation within a construction environment.
  • Experience influencing contractors and project teams to achieve excellent safety performance.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and contractor assurance processes.
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Understanding of process safety principles and their application within complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with a passion for driving positive change.
Qualifications

We're looking for candidates with a relevant qualification, such as:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) or be working towards it.
  • HNC/HND, degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering, construction or related discipline.
  • Professional membership of a recognised health, safety or environmental body is desirable.

A competitive salary of £61,400 - £67,000 per annum, plus £10,970 per annum London weighting allowance.
