Job summary

WCI seeks a Senior Service Engineer to lead our service team and ensure top-quality work by engineers. Based mainly at the Wiveliscombe office, you will support on-site engineers by phone, diagnose faults and quote follow-on work, and conduct field inspections, maintenance, and commissioning as needed.

You will mentor trainees, develop service procedures, and ensure safe, efficient delivery in line with company policies. UK travel may be required and weekend work is possible.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of package sewage treatment plants, pump stations and related equipment.
• Minimum five years' mechanical and electrical experience.
• 18th Edition or equivalent electrical qualification.
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Able to price and quote jobs.
• Good communication with customers and colleagues.
• Computer literate and proficient with MS Office.
• Independent, reliable and good time management.
• Interest in water industry and environmental issues.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Based near Wiveliscombe, TA4 area preferred.
• Able to participate in UK on-call rota and travel as needed.
• Occasional weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

Role Summary

As Senior Service Engineer, you'll be the technical lead for our service team, responsible for the quality of the work our service engineers carry out.

Most of the week is based at our Wiveliscombe office, supporting engineers on site by phone, resolving escalated technical issues and quoting follow-on work. The rest is in the field, on inspections, maintenance and commissioning jobs that need a senior engineer's expertise across sewage treatment plants, pump stations and rainwater harvesting systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and advice to customers, colleagues and engineers on site, including daily phone support and resolving escalated technical issues
• Carry out fault diagnosis, repair, maintenance and commissioning on sewage treatment and water pumping systems, covering electrical and mechanical equipment
• Complete pre-service inspections and define what is needed to bring systems up to a serviceable standard
• Produce detailed service reports with costed technical recommendations
• Quote additional work identified in the field, and refer more complex opportunities to the sales team
• Produce RAMS and order sheets
• Train and coach trainee and service engineers, and take responsibility for the quality of the service team's work
• Help develop technical documentation, manuals and service procedures
• Make sure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with company policies and health and safety requirements
• Build strong customer relationships and promote WCI's products and services
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and customer call-outs as part of the on-call rota

About You

This role suits an experienced service engineer who is ready to spend more of the week supporting other engineers than working alone on site.

You’ll have a strong mechanical and electrical background in sewage treatment and pumping systems, diagnose faults at system level rather than part by part, and explain clearly to customers and colleagues what you’ve found and what needs doing.

It will suit someone organised and self-motivated who enjoys passing on what they know.

Essential Skills/Qualifications

• Knowledge of package sewage treatment plants, pump stations, rainwater harvesting systems and associated equipment such as pumps, motors and air compressors
• At least five years' mechanical and electrical experience
• 18th Edition (BS 7671) or equivalent electrical qualification
• SSSTS or SMSTS
• Technically minded, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Able to price and quote jobs
• Good communication skills and a professional manner with customers
• Computer literate
• Motivated, reliable and able to work unsupervised, with excellent time management
• Knowledge of, and interest in, the water industry and environmental issue
• Full, clean driving licence
• Ideally based within a 45-minute drive of our Wiveliscombe office (TA4 2PW)
• Able to take part in the on-call rota, currently one week in five
• Able to travel within the UK when required, including occasional overnight stays
• Available for occasional weekend working

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of off-mains drainage, including sewage treatment, pumping stations and rainwater harvesting systems
• British Water Accredited Service Engineer
• Medium risk confined spaces qualification
• Manual handling qualification
• Knowledge of potable water systems and water testing
• Familiarity with Excel and Word
