Job Description

We are seeking an adaptable Service Designer for a permanent role. You will work effectively in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver excellent results on GDS projects for our public sector clients.

Your responsibilities include working with users and stakeholders to design products and services, considering end-to-end journeys and individual elements. Your portfolio should demonstrate your understanding of user needs, design standards, and your ability to communicate design decisions effectively.

Please note: Eligibility for Security Clearance is required.

SC clearance typically requires 5 years of continuous UK address history, with no periods of 30 days or more outside the UK at the time of application.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of design thinking, applying frameworks appropriately.
• Evidence-based design approach, testing assumptions to ensure simplicity and effectiveness.

Focus on Users

• Ability to undertake basic user research, collaborate with researchers, and ensure usability and accessibility.
• Designs that meet diverse user needs with clear explanations of design choices and constraints.

Concepts and Prototyping

• Creating and iterating prototypes with appropriate fidelity and tools.
• Evaluating and explaining concepts and prototypes to stakeholders.
• Applying and adapting design patterns within the wider community.

Accessible/Inclusive Design

• Understanding key principles, applying them appropriately, and evaluating designs against standards.

Design Standards Knowledge

• Understanding and demonstrating compliance with relevant standards, especially for UK public sector projects.

Consultancy Skills

• Communicating design processes effectively, managing stakeholders, and escalating issues when necessary.

Agile Working

• Aligning work with user-centered and agile practices within multidisciplinary teams.
