Job summary

GARMIN LIMITED in Southampton is seeking a Senior Server Administrator for a 12-month fixed-term, on-site role. This 40-hour week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm position offers £60,000 per year and excellent benefits.

You will join a collaborative team, serving as technical expert, mentor, and change leader across our server environment and broader technology initiatives. You will contribute by researching new technologies, designing complex Windows server solutions, supporting Azure local

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in CS/IT or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to apply learned knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to author and implement basic scripting to automate tasks.
  • Ability to implement new technologies effectively.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in a small team.
  • Quality documentation and organised work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Research new technologies and propose cost-effective solutions.
  • Design and develop complex, integrated Windows server solutions.
  • Support Windows Azure Local Hypervisor deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Perform cost analyses and vendor comparisons for projects of all sizes.
  • Assess feasibility of approaches and make recommendations.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of a shared rota.
  • Develop expertise in server, storage, email, file, and collaboration systems.
  • Communicate effectively about system operations and env changes.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI and other requirements.
  • Manage capacity, redundancy, and health constraints across systems.
  • Ensure security requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Contribute to team roadmap and priorities.
  • Develop reliable solutions to complex problems with ingenuity.
  • Show broad business understanding across functions.
  • Mentor less experienced IT Administrators.
  • Lead major incident troubleshooting across disciplines.
  • Innovate within area of expertise.
  • Facilitate team discussions and meetings.
  • Act as expert and apply extensive technical expertise.
  • Contribute input to broader technology solutions.

Requirements
  • We require a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or another relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
