Job summary

Salford City Council is seeking a senior SEN caseworker to lead a small team of SEN caseworkers. You will oversee the assessment, drafting and amendment of Education, Health and Care Plans, and manage the placement and review of children and young people aged 0-25 with SEND.

The role involves ensuring high-quality EHCPs meet statutory duties under the 2014 Act, the 2015 Code of Practice, and the Equality Act.

Qualifications

• Proven experience of working with children/young people with SEND and their families.
• Knowledge of SEND code of practice and relevant legislation (Children and Families Act 2014; SEND Code of Practice 2015; Equality Act 2010).
• Experience supporting a team and coordinating casework processes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee administration of EHCP assessment, drafting and amendments.

• Support staff through induction and training, run casework meetings and 1:1s.
• Coordinate year group planning, annual reviews and transitions as required.

About us

We currently have an exciting vacancy as a senior SEN caseworker within our busy team delivering Salford City Council’s statutory responsibility for the assessment, drafting and amending of Education, Health and Care Plans, and for the placement and review of children and young people (0 -25) with SEND.

The team is responsible for the delivery of the Local Authority’s statutory duties in relation to the assessment, provision and review of children and young people with complex SEN. Working closely with parents and other professionals from schools, health services and social care, the team ensure that the special educational needs of children are met within the context of managing resources fairly and equitably.

The SEN team co-ordinate the statutory assessment and review process, produce Education, Health & Care Plans, identify and commission appropriate provision.
We want every child and young person aged 0- 25 with SEND to have the fullest opportunity to be happy, healthy and achieve their full potential.

About the role

As a senior SEN caseworker, you will be responsible for supporting a small team of SEN caseworkers; this involves overseeing the administration of procedures for the assessment, drafting and amending of EHCPs, the placement and review of children and young people (0-25) with SEND and ensuring the EHCPs are of a high quality and meet statutory duties in relation to the Children and Families Act (2014), the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010). The role is to support the effective day to day operation of the SEN team; you will do this through casework meetings, one to ones, and supporting staff through induction and training opportunities. You will also hold a small but complex caseload, involving attendance at meetings and reviews as necessary, and support the managers and Head of Service by coordinating year groups, annual reviews and transitions as required.

You will have a strong knowledge and understanding of the SEND code of practice and the underpinning values of the Children’s and Families Act (2014) and of good quality SEND provision and how this can be delivered.
