Job summary

Mattermost is hiring a Senior Security Engineer to protect people, infrastructure, and tooling that goes into building and hosting Mattermost. This hands-on role sits at the intersection of enterprise security engineering, cloud information security, and AI-enabled threat response.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of security tooling, harden our cloud and IT infrastructure, and serve as a key responder to incidents.

Qualifications

• Experience with IAM solutions and infrastructure automation.
• Experience evaluating AI systems and AI-assisted workflows for security implications.
• Cloud security controls across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure.
• 3+ years hands-on in security engineering and incident response.
• Knowledge of SOAR platforms and automation of security workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with EDR tools such as CrowdStrike or SentinelOne.
• Strong knowledge of Linux systems and Kubernetes/Docker environments.
• Experience with SIEM and security monitoring systems.
• Experience securing Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tenants.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust principles and threat hunting.
• Security certifications such as OSCP, GCIH, or GCFA are a plus.
• Background in open-source communities.
• Experience in Go or Python.
• Endpoint security management in a fully remote organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of security tooling and controls.
• Harden cloud and IT infrastructure and respond to incidents.
• Detect, investigate, and remediate security incidents using SIEM/EDR/SOAR.
• Conduct threat hunting across cloud and endpoint environments under Zero Trust.
• Administer IAM and security monitoring across the org.
• Contribute to security policies, incident response, and forensics.
• Assess AI-enabled tools and workflows for risk; mitigate where needed.
• Explore AI/automation in detection, analysis, and response pipelines.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams across time zones.
