Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Senior Science Laboratory Technician for an immediate start at a high-achieving secondary school in Bournemouth. You will oversee laboratory preparation, manage inventories, and ensure safe operation of all school laboratories for KS3–KS5.

Joining the Head of Science, you will support practical lessons, maintain equipment, and supervise junior technicians. A strong safety focus and organization are essential for this permanent, term-time plus preparation weeks

Formación

• Relevant qualification in Science (A-Level, HND, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field)
• Experience as a laboratory technician in a school, college, or lab setting
• Knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards and COSHH protocols
• Ability to manage inventories, log safety data, and maintain equipment
• Strong organization with attention to detail and deadlines
• DBS Update Service or willingness to apply

Responsabilidades

• Prepare, assemble, and set up practical apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily science lessons and exams
• Monitor chemical stock levels, manage hazardous substance registers, and dispose of waste per COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines
• Perform routine safety checks and maintenance on equipment, fume cupboards, and first-aid stations
• Assist teaching staff during complex practical sessions with demonstrations and troubleshooting
• Maintain safety logs, chemical hazard databases, and equipment repair schedules
• Line-manage and schedule tasks for assistant laboratory technicians

A high-achieving secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking a safety-conscious, organized Senior Science Laboratory Technician to oversee laboratory preparation and technical operations for an immediate (ASAP) start.

Job Overview

Working directly alongside the Head of Science, the Senior Science Technician ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient day-to-day operation of all school laboratories. You will prepare scientific equipment, chemical solutions, and biological specimens across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 practical lessons.

In addition to daily experiment setup, you will manage chemical inventories, maintain laboratory machinery, enforce CLEAPSS safety standards, and supervise assistant technician staff. This is a full-time, ongoing or permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and set up practical apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily science lessons and exams

• Monitor chemical stock levels, manage hazardous substance registers, and dispose of waste strictly in line with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines

• Perform routine safety checks and maintenance on laboratory equipment, fume cupboards, and first-aid stations

• Assist teaching staff during complex practical sessions with technical demonstrations and equipment troubleshooting

• Maintain accurate safety logs, chemical hazard databases, and equipment repair schedules

• Line-manage and schedule tasks for assistant laboratory technicians

Role Overview & Specifications

• Start Date: Immediate (ASAP)

• Contract Type: Full-time, long-term or permanent (Term-Time + preparation weeks or 52-week)

• Location: Bournemouth, Dorset

• Salary / Pay Rate: Scale 5–6 / Grade 6 equivalent

• Key Systems: CLEAPSS / COSHH Registers / Lab Inventory Software

Candidate Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Science (A-Level, HND, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field)

• Previous laboratory technician experience within a secondary school, college, or commercial laboratory environment

• Strong working knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards, COSHH protocols, and chemical handling procedures

• Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work to morning practical deadlines

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
