Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Senior Science Laboratory Technician for a modern academy in Poole, Dorset. You will lead daily laboratory setup, prepare chemical solutions, and ensure safety compliance under the Head of Science.

The role involves managing inventories, maintaining equipment, and supervising junior technicians for Key Stage 3–5 practical sessions. Start ASAP on a full-time basis, with term-time + 2 weeks or 52-week contracts.

Formación

• Relevant qualification in Science (A-Level, HND, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field)
• Active DBS check on Update Service or willingness to apply
• Strong knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards and COSHH protocols

Responsabilidades

• Prepare, assemble, and set up practical apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily lessons and exams
• Monitor chemical stock levels, manage hazardous substance registers, and dispose of waste per COSHH/CLEAPSS guidelines
• Perform routine safety checks and maintenance on laboratory equipment, fume cupboards, and first-aid stations
• Assist teaching staff during practical sessions with technical demonstrations and equipment troubleshooting
• Maintain accurate safety logs, chemical hazard databases, and equipment repair schedules
• Line-manage and schedule daily tasks for assistant laboratory technicians

A modern secondary academy in Poole, Dorset, is seeking a practical, safety-conscious Senior Science Laboratory Technician to lead laboratory preparation and technical support for an immediate (ASAP) start.

Job Overview

Working directly under the Head of Science, the Senior Science Technician ensures the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of all school laboratories. You will prepare scientific equipment, chemical solutions, and biological specimens across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 practical sessions.

In addition to daily experiment setup, you will manage chemical inventories, maintain laboratory machinery, enforce CLEAPSS safety standards, and supervise assistant technician staff. This is a full-time, ongoing or permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and set up practical apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily lessons and exams

Candidate Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Science (A-Level, HND, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field)

• Previous laboratory technician experience within a secondary school, college, or commercial lab environment

• Strong working knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards, COSHH protocols, and chemical handling

• High attention to detail and ability to work effectively under morning practical deadlines

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
