Job summary

The Fix Creative Ltd in Birmingham are seeking an experienced Senior Scenic Carpenter for a part-time role with overtime potential. The position combines workshop fabrication with site installations, covering theatre, TV, film, advertising and events.

You will interpret technical drawings, lead workshop production, supervise freelance carpenters, and help deliver high-quality, on-time projects across diverse sites. Strong craft, problem-solving and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in scenic carpentry, set construction or a similar fabrication environment.
• Strong practical carpentry and fabrication skills.
• The ability to confidently interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications.
• The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• The ability to work effectively to deadlines.
• Experience of supervising or coordinating other people when required.
• A proactive and organised approach to work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to find practical solutions.
• Experience working both in a workshop and on site.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise directly with production teams and clients when required.

Responsibilities

• Scenic carpentry and set construction.
• Working accurately from technical drawings, plans and specifications.
• Preparing materials and organising workshop production.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop.
• Operating and maintaining workshop machinery, equipment and hand tools.
• Leading and supporting freelance carpenters and other workshop staff when required.
• Helping to coordinate and deliver site installations.
• Ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Working collaboratively with the wider production team.
• Taking responsibility for quality, deadlines and practical problem-solving.
