Job summary

Leonardo in the United Kingdom seeks a Lead Safety Engineer to join the Design Integrity function, supporting the Test Engineering department. You will ensure safety governance, lead on test safety and equipment safety, and drive from concept to certification with ALARP considerations.

The role is hybrid with a minimum of three days onsite at Edinburgh or Newcastle and regular travel between sites. A strong background in electronics/avionics safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
• Degree in engineering or a science discipline with a 2:1 or higher.
• Experience applying safety tools in Electronics or Avionics disciplines.
• Knowledge of test equipment safety and certification processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Systems Engineering to meet safety requirements.
• Define Product Safety and Environmental requirements.
• Plan and execute test programmes addressing safety concerns.
• Ensure safety certification for test equipment and readiness for test.
• Support lifecycle readiness reviews including Design Certification.
• Provide independent assessment through Product Design Reviews.
• Offer safety and environmental guidance within Test Engineering.
• Participate in Product Safety Panels and incident data management.
