Job summary

Imagine Learning UK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our Ruby on Rails teams in the Glasgow area. You will own end-to-end features, ship secure, well-tested code, and leverage AI-assisted development tools within our CI/CD workflow.

You will mentor peers, write robust tests with RSpec, and collaborate with Product Owners to deliver high-impact solutions. The role offers flexible hybrid working in the UK and a supportive, learning-focused culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience, incl. 3+ years with Ruby on Rails.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/Software Engineering desired.

Responsibilities

• Analyse requirements with Product Owners and translate into practical designs with timelines.
• Write Rails code following team conventions for clarity and long-term quality.
• Utilise AI coding assistants while applying rigorous review of generated code.
• Develop and maintain AI tools, ensuring alignment with team standards.
• Write RSpec tests to validate behavior and catch unintended changes.
• Use metrics and observability to identify improvements and strengthen logging.
• Work with PostgreSQL/MySQL and manage migrations and performance.
• Participate in on-call rotation and resolve issues while preserving customer experience.
• Package and release work through CI/CD pipelines and assist with deployments.
• Contribute to PR reviews and maintain code quality with risk-based reviews.
• Create documentation explaining technical decisions and context.
• Mentor other engineers and share knowledge on Ruby, Rails, and AI tooling.
