Job summary

Royal Bank of Scotland is seeking a Senior Risk & Controls Associate to support, develop and embed risk and control mechanisms, independently overseeing and challenging the management of risks and controls across the business.

You will design, implement and deliver our risk framework, work with stakeholders to drive regulatory compliance, and provide risk and control advice to ensure products and services meet regulatory expectations while maintaining a proactive risk posture.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to design and implement compliant solutions that meet business needs within risk appetite.
  • Provide guidance on risk and control management, ensuring regulatory obligations are met.
  • Ensure customer outcomes are delivered through processes and controls with Operations, Product and Technology.
  • Design, implement and maintain a risk-based controls framework; drive KPI evolution.
  • Manage regulatory risk by interpreting requirements and driving remediation activities.
  • Support incident resolution that could expose the business to risk through risk partnering.
  • Interface with NatWest stakeholders on risk-driven priorities, policies, and processes.
  • Develop and maintain key Risk MI and RAID log; escalate as needed.

Join us as a Senior Risk & Controls Associate We'll look to you to support, develop and embed the risk and control mechanisms for the business, independently overseeing and challenging the effective management of risks and controls Supporting the design, implementation and ongoing delivery of our risk framework and processes, you’ll work with stakeholders to drive compliance with key regulatory and policy requirements, and provide risk and control advice Broaden your regulatory knowledge and understanding and develop in a strategic, proactive role which supports the management of the bank's risk profile

What you'll do

As a Senior Risk & Controls Associate, you'll be acting as a subject matter expert and helping to develop, manage and implement our compliance and conduct policies, for our products and services so that we can make sure they are fit for purpose and meet the relevant regulatory expectations. Day-to-day, you’ll be:

  • Partnering with the business stakeholders in Product or Operations and other functional areas to design and implement innovative solutions (e.g. new products or services) which meet the needs of the business whilst ensuring we remain within stated risk appetite
  • Providing guidance and support in relation to risk and control management, ensuring regulatory obligations and internal governance requirements are met
  • Ensuring appropriate and intended customer and conduct outcomes, for either POS Lending, Unsecured Personal Loans or Savings products, are being delivered through processes and controls by working with Operations, Product and Technology teams
  • Supporting the design, implementation and ongoing application of a risk based controls framework, driving evolution of processes and key risk indicators
  • Managing regulatory risk, including the identification, interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements driving the delivery of change or remediation activities through build and run activities
  • Risk partnering to support resolution of ad-hoc events and incidents which expose the business to unanticipated risk
  • Partnering with a product or functional team to support development of products, features, services which are compliant and controlled by design
  • Acting as an interface with wider NatWest stakeholders including senior risk colleagues (FLOD and SLOD) in the design and implementation of risk-driven priorities, policies, and processes
  • Developing and embedding key Risk MI, including maintaining an up to date RAID log and escalating issues to Risk & Controls Lead and/or Chief Risk Officer as appropriate
The skills you'll need

To succeed in this role, you will need the ability to risk partner Product and or Operational teams to launch new products and or Services to the market. You will also need experience in a compliance, conduct or risk management role or similar relevant experience. You'll have knowledge of the regulatory environment and its frameworks, and ideally experience of interpreting regulatory rules and regulations, such as BCOBs, Consumer Credit Act, Consumer Duty, used in the development of banking products and operations would be great, together with experience working in a fast paced, agile environment. You'll also demonstrate:

  • Experience of working with product and functional business teams to deliver new capabilities
  • Proven strong ability to problem solve with product and functional teams to deliver innovative compliant solutions
  • Ability to convey complex information and ideas clearly to stakeholders and embed product policy, processes and controls that balance regulatory compliance and commerciality
  • Confidence to influence and challenge senior risk stakeholders in the interpretation and implementation of internal policy and regulatory requirements, flexing between corporate thinking and a start-up innovative mindset
  • Experience of working in a customer experience and/or customer design-led thinking environment
  • Evidence of supporting the development of Lending and or Savings products with external understanding of regulation applicable to either or both.
