Job summary

Markel Group is seeking a Senior Reinsurance Technician to manage end-to-end reinsurance programmes, ensure accurate accounting, recoveries and reporting, and drive process improvements through data analytics and automation.

You will collaborate with Actuarial and Finance, build strong stakeholder relationships, and handle reporting within deadlines while maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Experience in the insurance industry with reinsurance post-placement knowledge.
• Ability to interpret contract terms and assess cover applicability.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with proven data-driven outcomes.
• Delivery-oriented, proactive and eager to develop personally and professionally.
• Ability to work autonomously, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership for assigned reinsurance programmes and manage end-to-end processes.
• Keep stakeholders and leadership informed without prompting.
• Create reinsurance risks in core systems and maintain policy terms.
• Calculate, book, advise and settle premiums, commissions and expenses.
• Compute and issue reinsurance recoveries for paid claims and reserves.
• Record recoveries in core systems and support reporting to Actuarial and Finance.
• Develop relationships with internal and external parties to expedite funds.
• Address questions with insights and data analytics; drive process improvement.
• Lead automation initiatives and ensure internal controls (SOX) are followed.
