Main Duties and Responsibilities
- People Management: The post holder will supervise specialist nursing assistants within the ED PHC clinic, supporting them through appropriate line management policies. They will mentor BSC Hons nursing students as per NMC guidelines and contribute to teaching and training staff from other disciplines, including turbo teach sessions, face-to-face teaching, and practical skills training such as MUAC measurement.
- Financial and Resource Management: Support the manager in ordering and maintaining equipment for the ED PHC clinic, ensuring it is functional, in-date, and properly regulated. Responsible for security, auditing, and daily reporting of equipment.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Document all clinical contacts promptly, ensure accurate data entry for referrals and assessments, and prepare correspondence to health professionals, including GPs.
- Patient Care: Oversee clinical operations within the ED PHC clinic, including monitoring patients' height, weight, MUAC, clinical observations, blood tests, ECG, and physical assessments. Monitor patient progress, assess risks, contribute to care planning, and provide psychoeducation and support. Respond appropriately to urgent medical needs.
- Service Development and Policy Implementation: Assist in developing policies for the ED PHC and represent the pathway in meetings. Contribute to data collection and support the ethos of the triangle of care involving families and carers.
- Professional Development: Maintain registration, engage in mandatory and non-mandatory training, and support ongoing CPD.
Communications and Relationships
Develop therapeutic relationships with patients, communicate effectively with families and carers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including CMHS, Glenbourne, and UHP Gastroentologists. Network with similar roles in other trusts as the clinic expands.
Physical Demands
The role requires resilience to support a high-mortality client group, stress management skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to travel across Plymouth for meetings and training.
