Job summary

Mitie Group plc in York is seeking a Senior Registered Forensic Psychologist to lead psychological services at HMP Millsike, a new Category C prison. You will undertake complex assessments and deliver interventions, while providing consultancy and supervision to teams across Safer Custody and Reducing Reoffending.

The role focuses on rehabilitation, evidence-based practice, and staff wellbeing within a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent leadership and autonomy are essential.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral-level qualification in Forensic Psychology.
  • Registered Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC.
  • Experience completing psychological and risk assessments (HCR-20, RSVP, SARA, WAIS or similar).
  • Experience producing formal risk assessment reports and acting as an expert witness in parole or hearings.
  • Experience delivering psychological interventions, consultancy, supervision, and research in forensic/offender settings.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Registered Forensic Psychologist to join our growing team at HMP Millsike, a brand-new Category C Resettlement Prison. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and compassionate practitioner to help shape psychological services, support prisoner rehabilitation, and contribute to the development of a positive, evidence-based culture focused on reducing reoffending and improving outcomes.

About the Role

As a Senior Registered Forensic Psychologist, you will provide psychological leadership across the prison, working directly with prisoners, staff, and stakeholders while supporting the development of innovative psychological services. You will undertake complex assessments, deliver interventions, provide consultancy and supervision, and contribute to the prison's wider rehabilitative and restorative objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality psychological and risk assessments, prepare reports for Parole Board hearings, and act as an expert witness when required.
  • Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions and provide specialist consultancy to teams across Safer Custody, Violence Reduction, Reducing Reoffending, and Offender Management functions.
  • Support the development and governance of psychological services, ensuring compliance with HCPC, HMPPS, contractual, and organisational standards.
  • Provide supervision, oversight, and professional support to Forensic Psychologists in Training and intervention delivery teams.
  • Develop and deliver staff training, contribute to research initiatives, and promote best practice in rehabilitation, behaviour change, reducing reoffending, and staff wellbeing.
What You'll BringEssential
  • Doctoral-level qualification in Forensic Psychology.
  • Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience completing psychological and risk assessments including HCR-20, RSVP, SARA, WAIS, or similar assessment tools.
  • Experience producing formal psychological risk assessment reports and acting as an expert witness in parole or equivalent hearings.
  • Experience delivering psychological interventions, providing consultancy to stakeholders, supervising professionals, and conducting research within forensic or offender settings.
Desirable
  • Experience working as a Registered Forensic Psychologist within a prison or custodial environment.
  • Experience supervising Forensic Psychologists in Training.
  • Knowledge and experience of HMPPS accredited offending behaviour programmes.
  • Eligibility to join the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS).
  • Eligibility to act as a Coordinating Supervisor on the BPS Stage 2 Qualification in Forensic Psychology.
