Job summary

STFC's National Quantum Computing Centre at Harwell seeks a Senior Quantum Applications Engineer to lead research and develop quantum computing solutions. You will mentor colleagues and collaborate with government, industry and academia to advance the UK's quantum ecosystem.

You will work on algorithms, software and hardware, using Python and SDKs (Qiskit, Cirq), publish findings, and help define future use cases. A PhD or equivalent experience is required.

Qualifications

• PhD level (or equivalent) in quantum computing, quantum information or related field.
• Proven track record in research and publications in quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical work and research to deliver team objectives.
• Develop and optimize quantum algorithms; write code and use SDKs to program quantum devices.
• Collaborate with experts in algorithm benchmarking, verification and error correction.
• Identify and develop use-cases for quantum computing across sectors.
• Analyze quantum advantage for practical problems with classical benchmarks.
• Lead collaborative projects and mentor junior staff.
• Adopt agile and software engineering practices.
• Report findings and publish non-confidential results.
• Stay up-to-date with advances in quantum computing.
• Support strategic objectives and national quantum mission goals.
