Job summary

UK Research and Innovation invites applications for a Senior Quantum Applications Engineer at the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire. You will lead research and develop quantum computing applications, working with multidisciplinary experts to translate research into practical solutions.

Qualifications

• PhD level or equivalent experience in quantum computing/quantum information.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical work and research to support the team’s objectives.
• Develop and validate high-impact quantum computing applications across algorithms, software and hardware.
• Mentor colleagues and influence technical decisions within programmes.
• Identify use-cases for quantum computing in priority sectors (life sciences, healthcare, finance, energy, transport).
• Analyze quantum advantage for practical problems using classical benchmarks.
• Promote agile and software engineering practices in delivery.
• Publish non-confidential results in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Keep up with state‑of‑the‑art in quantum computing.
