Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a contract role on Thames Water projects in the UK. You will lead full commercial activities across water-sector construction initiatives and drive accurate, timely reporting.

You will administer contracts, manage payments, subcontracts, variations, and claims while mentoring junior staff and ensuring alignment of programme, progress and cost with delivery teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in water-sector projects or utilities is essential.
• Strong track record in commercial management and contract administration.
• Proven ability to lead junior commercial staff and deliver robust cost control.

Responsibilities

• Lead full commercial activities across water-sector construction projects.
• Administer contracts including early warnings/compensation events, change control, and commercial correspondence with the client and supply chain.
• Produce and maintain cost reports: forecasts, CVRs, earned value/progress measures, and monthly commercial packs for senior stakeholders.
• Manage applications for payment, valuations, payment notices, and ensure timely cash collection in line with contract requirements.
• Procure and manage subcontractors: tendering, negotiation, contract placement, performance monitoring, and commercial issue resolution.
• Prepare, assess and agree variations, quotations and claims, ensuring robust substantiation and contemporaneous records.
• Support project teams with risk and opportunity management (commercial risk register), cost-to-complete, and mitigation actions.
• Work closely with delivery teams to align programme, progress, and cost, and challenge cost drivers where needed.
• Ensure governance and compliance: audit-ready records, accurate document control, and adherence to internal commercial processes and client frameworks.
• Mentor junior commercial staff and contribute to continuity of knowledge and capability.
