Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor for water infrastructure projects in the UK. You will own commercial performance of major schemes, liaising with clients, subcontractors and operations to maximise value and ensure contractual obligations are met.

Role requires management of subcontract packages, change control, monthly applications, CVRs, and robust reporting. A CSCS card and strong IT skills are essential; MRICS/MCIOB considered an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in a commercial or Quantity Surveying environment.
  • Experience managing large projects or multiple schemes.
  • Good understanding of standard construction contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and commercial management.
  • Experience managing subcontractors.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage subcontract packages from procurement through to final account.
  • Prepare subcontract documentation and negotiate terms, conditions, pricing and programmes.
  • Assess subcontractor payments and manage variations and commercial changes.
  • Produce and issue contractual notices to clients and subcontractors.
  • Manage change in accordance with the contract, including Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Prepare, submit and agree monthly client applications.
  • Collaborate with operational and engineering teams on site and commercial records.
  • Present monthly commercial reports and CVRs with accuracy.
  • Produce accurate project forecasts and monitor expenditure and subcontractor costs.
  • Review project expenditure and internal cost reports.
  • Lead progress, commercial and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise project value and profitability.
  • Support estimating and bid teams with contractual/commercial input.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.

Job description

Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor in the water industry looking for a change which will offer flexibility and excellent career progression? You will take responsibility for the commercial management, administration and performance of either a major project or a portfolio of smaller schemes. You will work closely with operational, engineering, client and subcontractor teams, ensuring projects are commercially controlled, contractual obligations are met and opportunities to maximise value are identified.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage subcontract packages from procurement through to final account.
  • Prepare subcontract documentation and negotiate terms, conditions, pricing and programmes.
  • Assess subcontractor payments and manage variations and commercial changes.
  • Produce and issue contractual notices to clients and subcontractors.
  • Manage change in accordance with the relevant contract, including the preparation and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Prepare, submit and agree monthly client applications.
  • Work closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure appropriate site and commercial records are maintained.
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly commercial reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Produce and maintain accurate project forecasts, monitoring expenditure, liabilities and subcontractor costs.
  • Review and critically evaluate project expenditure and internal cost reports.
  • Lead progress, commercial and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise project value, margin and profitability.
  • Provide contractual and commercial support to estimating and bid teams when required.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
Experience & Skills

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Strong experience working within a commercial or Quantity Surveying environment.
  • Experience managing large individual projects or multiple smaller schemes.
  • A good understanding of standard construction contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and commercial management.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and subcontract packages.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational, time management and delivery skills.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using commercial or cost management systems such as CEMAR and Oracle.
  • An appropriate CSCS card.
Qualifications
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or construction-related degree and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Professional membership such as MCIOB or MRICS would be advantageous, including candidates currently working towards full membership.
