Job Description:

Expanded is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our specialist business unit, Expanded. Part of the Laing O'Rourke Group, the Expanded Group provides total capability in the early construction phases of major projects, offering end-to-end solutions or bespoke services. We have a central technical design and engineering team that enables us to deliver piling, precast concrete, post-tensioning, and structures techniques.

Old Oak Common is a new super-hub, set to be the most connected and largest railway station ever built in the UK. The station will feature fourteen platforms, including six high-speed and eight conventional service platforms, with an 850m-long station box.

Role / responsibilities:

• Take sole responsibility for a project or a section of a project.
• Perform all Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
• Prepare and manage interim payment applications and certifications.
• Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
• Manage and report on monthly costs.
• Draft and prepare claims.
• Prepare and agree on final accounts.
• Manage daily activities of trainees, assistant quantity surveyors, or quantity surveyors.
• Negotiate with clients, subcontractors, and consultants to achieve project goals while maintaining good relationships.
• Advise project management on contractual implications of their actions.
• Assess commercial risks within projects.
• Prepare and manage monthly contract review reports.
• Prepare weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
• Prepare monthly management accounts information.
• Contribute to the Project Business Plan with contractual and commercial input.
• Assist in establishing the project’s "budget to build" from contract award.
• Identify and implement change control processes.
• Ensure contract documents are properly executed before project start.
• Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
• Keep your manager informed of any issues or risks that could impact the project or business.

Requirements:

• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
• Experience supporting a commercial manager or senior commercial manager on larger projects, or managing an area of at least £25m within a larger project.
