Job description

Expanded is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our specialist business unit, Expanded. As part of the Laing O'Rourke Group, the Expanded Group offers comprehensive capabilities in the early construction phases of major projects, including end-to-end solutions or bespoke services. Supported by a central technical design and engineering team, we deliver a full range of piling, precast concrete, post-tensioning, and structural techniques.

One of our notable projects is Old Oak Common, a new super-hub that will be the UK's largest and best-connected railway station, featuring fourteen platforms and an 850m-long station box.

Role / Responsibilities:
  1. Take sole responsibility for a project or section of a project.
  2. Perform all Senior Quantity Surveying duties, including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
  3. Prepare and manage interim payment applications and certifications.
  4. Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
  5. Manage and report on monthly costs.
  6. Draft and prepare claims.
  7. Prepare and agree on final accounts.
  8. Manage daily activities of any trainees, assistant, or senior quantity surveyors.
  9. Negotiate with clients' representatives, subcontractors, and other consultants to achieve project goals while maintaining positive relationships.
  10. Advise project management on contractual implications of planned actions.
  11. Assess and advise on commercial risks within the project(s).
  12. Prepare and manage monthly contract review reports.
  13. Prepare weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
  14. Prepare monthly management accounts information.
  15. Contribute contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan, as needed.
  16. Assist in establishing the project "budget to build" from contract award.
  17. Identify and agree on change processes and implement change control.
  18. Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
  19. Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
  20. Keep your manager fully informed of any issues or risks that could impact the project or business.
Requirements:
  1. Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  2. Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
  3. Experience supporting a commercial manager or managing a project area (£25m+) on larger projects.
  4. Experience with structures is desirable.
