Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility for major civil packages on a key infrastructure project. The role covers earthworks, drainage, structures and bridge works, with hands-on management of procurement, contracts and final accounts.

You will forecast package performance, monitor spend, manage subcontractor relationships and drive value through robust cost controls and proactive risk reporting.

Qualifications

• BSc Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) required.
• Experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil contractors.
• Strong background in major civil/infrastructure schemes.
• Experience managing earthworks, drainage, bridges and structures.
• Good forecasting, budgeting and cost-control skills.
• Experience drafting and administering subcontracts.
• Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts (Options A and E).

Responsibilities

• Commercial management of major civil packages including earthworks, drainage, bridges and structures.
• Producing accurate cost forecasts and cost-to-complete assessments.
• Monitoring actual spend against budget and forecast.
• Identifying and investigating over/underspends.
• Reporting on package performance and emerging commercial risks.
• Preparing and developing draft subcontracts for downstream suppliers and subcontractors.
• Managing subcontractor accounts, applications, payments and commercial correspondence.
• Managing downstream change control, including variations and compensation events.
• Reviewing costs associated with change and ensuring commercial recovery.
• Maintaining accurate cost and value records.
• Working closely with project, engineering, procurement and planning teams.
• Supporting monthly commercial reporting and forecasting.
