Job summary

1st Executive Ltd. seeks an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and provide commercial assurance across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.

The role focuses on value for money, contractual compliance, and strong governance across the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will drive tender reviews, changes, and payments, while maintaining robust financial controls and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing a portfolio of projects commercially (pre- and post-contract).
• Recent experience leading or managing a team of Quantity Surveyors.
• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent commercial discipline.
• Strong knowledge of contract administration, cost management and commercial governance.
• Experience negotiating with contractors and suppliers across commercial matters.
• Experience dealing with variations, extensions of time, claims and dispute resolution.
• Strong understanding of project and contractual risk with ability to mitigate exposure.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence senior teams.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project locations.
• Experience in regulated infrastructure, utilities, construction, engineering or similarly complex environments.
• Professional membership or chartered status with a recognised QS/commercial body.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, providing direction and development.
• Provide commercial assurance across a portfolio of major projects and programmes.
• Provide commercial and contractual advice to project and delivery teams.
• Review, challenge and negotiate project tenders to secure robust outcomes.
• Ensure payments are accurately assessed, certified and made per contract.
• Assess and manage changes, variations, and extensions of time and financial impacts.
• Support budget and expenditure management across projects.
• Collect, analyse and maintain accurate commercial data for reporting and decision-making.
• Audit, review and agree project accounts with strong financial controls.
• Monitor contractual compliance across the portfolio and identify risks.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
• Identify and manage commercial risks throughout the lifecycle.
• Support senior colleagues with claims and disputes resolution.
• Provide commercial insight to senior stakeholders across the portfolio.
