Job summary

Vital Energi is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a major project at Gatwick with a 3-day on-site commitment in West Sussex. You will support financial management of contracts, manage commercial risk, and drive value through procurement, invoicing, and final accounts.

The ideal candidate will hold a BSc in Quantity Surveying (MRICS or equivalent) and have strong NEC3/NEC4 experience, including Option A. A UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Senior Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record in construction.
• BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (MRICS or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including Options A–E (A preferred).
• Experience within construction and/or M&E sectors with commercial awareness.

Responsibilities

• Support financial management of contracts with Contracts/Project Managers.
• Vet client documentation for tender alignment and negotiations.
• Create a Commercial Risk Register and monitor risk with mitigations.
• Issue enquiries for major plant and subcontract packages; evaluate quotations and issue POs.
• Prepare and submit payment applications; obtain certificates and progress payments.
• Measure, agree variations and loss/expense claims to final accounts.
• Maintain on-site record-keeping and issue notices per contract provisions.
• Prepare CVRs and Cash/Spend Profiles; attend Contract Review Meetings.
• Authorize and code supplier/subcontractor invoices for payment.
• Measure, certify and agree subcontractors' interim valuations and final accounts.

Due to our continuing success, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join us, working on a major £110m project.

Here at Vital Energi, we are experiencing rapid and extensive growth across all business sectors and are looking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a successful background in construction.

You will join our Commercial team, supporting a major project. You will support the financial management of contracts in partnership with the Contracts Managers and/or Project Managers.

Please note that for this role a site presence will be required, around 3 days per week on site in West Sussex.

What You Will Be Doing

• Work in partnership with site management, providing commercial support as required to develop a proactive site team and ensure contractual obligations are identified and administered.
• Vet contract documentation upon receipt from the client to ensure compatibility with the Company's tender submission and subsequent negotiations.
• Produce a Commercial Risk Register for each contract, monitoring risk and assisting in the implementation of agreed mitigation measures.
• Prepare and issue enquiries for major plant, equipment and subcontract packages. Commercially evaluate quotations, negotiate pricing and terms with vendors, and issue resultant purchase orders.
• Prepare and submit applications for payment and/or invoices, obtain payment certificates and progress client payments in accordance with contractual provisions.
• Measure, submit and agree variations, loss and expense claims, and/or compensation events in accordance with contractual provisions to facilitate the prompt agreement of final accounts.
• Monitor on-site record keeping and prepare and issue notices in accordance with contractual provisions.
• Prepare and submit monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and Cash/Spend Profiles. Attend Contract Review Meetings.
• Authorise and code suppliers' and subcontractors' invoices and submit them to Finance for payment.
• Measure, certify and agree subcontractors' interim valuations and final accounts. Prepare and issue contractual notices to subcontractors.

Who We Are Looking For

• A Senior Quantity Surveyor with a successful track record in the construction industry.
• Educated to BSc level in Quantity Surveying (or another equivalent commercially related discipline).
• A strong understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 Contracts, including Options A, B, C, D and E, with predominantly Option A experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. MRICS or equivalent).
• Knowledge and practical experience within the construction and/or mechanical and electrical (M&E) sectors.
• Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
• Full UK driving licence.
