Job summary

Vital Energi is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor on a 6-month fixed-term contract to provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of projects in the UK.

You will lead commercial teams, managing budgets, forecasts, CVRs, cash flow and reporting while advising on NEC/JCT contract administration and risk. Travel and driving are required as needed.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
  • Significant experience in a Senior QS/Commercial Manager/Managing QS role.
  • Professional membership or working towards chartered status.

Job DescriptionManaging Quantity Surveyor (6 month fixed term contract)

Would you like to be part of Vital Energi's 5-Year Strategy of Growth? If so, due to our continuing success, we are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor on a 6 month fixed term contract basis to provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of projects, driving financial performance, contractual compliance and commercial best practice. Reporting to senior commercial leadership, you will play a key role in managing project profitability, mitigating risk and developing high-performing commercial teams.

What You Will Be Doing

Lead, mentor and develop commercial teams, ensuring high standards of performance, governance and professional development. Drive commercial success through effective management of project budgets, forecasts, Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cash flow and reporting. Monitor project performance, identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities to maximise profitability. Provide strategic contractual advice on contract administration, variations, compensation events, claims, final accounts and dispute resolution. Oversee procurement activities, subcontractor management and supply chain performance to ensure value and commercial compliance. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders, supporting successful commercial negotiations and project delivery. Ensure consistency in commercial processes, reporting standards and governance across allocated projects. Support business growth through resource planning, recruitment and succession planning initiatives.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused professional with a proven track record in senior quantity surveying or commercial management within the construction, infrastructure or civil engineering sectors. The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or Managing Quantity Surveyor role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor and develop high-performing commercial teams.
  • Excellent commercial and financial acumen, including experience with forecasting, CVRs, cash flow management and profitability reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, risk management, variations, claims and final account negotiations, with experience working under NEC, JCT and other standard forms of contract.
  • Proven experience in procurement, subcontractor management and supply chain performance management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Professional membership of RICS, CIOB, CICES or equivalent (or working towards chartered status).
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with proficiency in commercial and project management systems.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
Desirable
  • Chartered status (MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent) and experience leading commercial functions across multiple projects within a fast-paced project environment.
