Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor for a major infrastructure project in Ayrshire. You will drive commercial management on a new 400MW Battery Energy Storage System, reporting to the Commercial Manager and collaborating with the on-site team.

The role requires strong commercial expertise, experience in energy/infrastructure, and the ability to lead key commercial activities across the project lifecycle. On-site work pattern with some flexibility is offered.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure project in Ayrshire, working on the development of a brand-new 400MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The project is being delivered on the site of the former Hunterston Power Station and has recently entered Early Contractor Involvement, with the full contract expected to commence towards the end of September.

This is an opportunity to join a project at a genuinely early stage and play a key role in establishing and managing the commercial function as the project progresses.

Why This Role?

You’ll operate directly under the Commercial Manager, with support from an existing Assistant Quantity Surveyor, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management of the project while working as part of an established team.

The successful candidate will be an experienced SQS who can hit the ground running with minimal training, although applications will also be considered from strong Quantity Surveyors who are ready to take the next step into a Senior QS position.

Experience within energy, utilities, infrastructure or wider major construction environments would be advantageous, but the key requirement is strong commercial experience and the ability to operate effectively in a project environment.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the Commercial Manager and wider project team, taking responsibility for key commercial activities as the project moves from early contractor involvement into the full contract.

The role would suit someone who is commercially driven, confident working autonomously and comfortable operating in a fast-moving project environment.

About You

We're looking for:

• Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, or a Quantity Surveyor ready to step up
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
• Experience working on major construction, infrastructure, energy, utilities or similar projects
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and take ownership of commercial responsibilities
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
• A proactive approach and the ability to work to tight project timescales
• Energy/BESS experience would be advantageous but is not essential
