As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be a key commercial lead within a multidisciplinary project team, supporting both operational delivery and senior management. This role provides a platform to develop existing commercial skills while broadening your experience across a varied portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
Working for a Tier 1 delivery contractor, a contractor known for delivering technically complex schemes ranging from £200k to £10m+, you will be instrumental in driving financial performance, managing risk, and ensuring robust commercial governance.
Key Responsibilities Commercial Leadership
- Produce accurate and timely cost/value reconciliations, forecasts, and monthly commercial reports.
- Manage the full commercial lifecycle from procurement through to final account.
- Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation, and payment schedules.
- Prepare and submit applications for payment, ensuring alignment with contractual entitlements.
- Support internal cash flow projections and monitor actuals against forecasted spend and revenue.
- Provide clear and concise commercial advice to project teams, identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
- Protect the business's commercial position by ensuring robust change management and contractual compliance.
Contract Administration
- Administer main and subcontract agreements (IChemE/NEC preferred), ensuring all obligations are met.
- Support contract reviews to identify and mitigate risk exposure, ensuring alignment with internal governance.
- Lead commercial engagement with clients, subcontractors, and external stakeholders on all matters relating to cost and contract changes.
- Promote effective supply chain engagement through sound contractual frameworks and relationship management.
Process & Governance
- Ensure internal commercial processes and deadlines are met, including monthly reporting cycles and audits.
- Champion process improvement and drive efficiencies in commercial delivery and project controls.
Key Performance Indicators
- Timely and accurate forecasting of project cost and value.
- Effective cost control and margin enhancement.
- Quality and compliance of commercial documentation.
- Risk identification and mitigation strategies implemented.
- Positive stakeholder and supply chain relationships maintained.
- Delivery of profit in line with business expectations.

- Internal: Project Delivery Teams, Commercial Team, Senior Management
- External: Clients, Subcontractors, Third-Party Advisors
Candidate Profile Essential
- Proven experience within the construction or civil engineering sector.
- In-depth understanding of IChemE or NEC contracts.
- Strong background in subcontract management, cost reporting, and forecasting.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
- Membership of RICS or equivalent (or working towards).
- Estimating experience is advantageous.
- Background with a self-delivery contractor is beneficial.
- CSCS accreditation.
