Job summary

Murphy is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial activities on railway/civil projects and ensure adherence to group procedures. The role requires a strong background in measurement, valuations, cost reporting and subcontract administration, with ongoing chartership through RICS/ICES.

You will manage internal reporting, trend commercial risks, and mentor junior staff, while maintaining rigorous cost controls and client communications on major infrastructure work.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying (or equivalent qualification).
  • Strong civil and/or rail background (essential) ideally rail.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or a Quantity Surveyor looking to step up.
  • Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
  • Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC) and Standard Methods of Measurement
  • Strong communication within presentations and ability to discuss technical issues clearly

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and develop a culture of commercial awareness within the team
  • Ensure the site team adheres to group procedures and governance
  • Composing of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required
  • Devising of Valuations/Applications for Payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract
  • Construction of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts
  • Preperation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
  • Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required
  • Positive engagement with Client equivalent position and development, motivation & performance management of junior staff
